May Stanley, a member of the South Aston Lunch Club, celebrated her 100th Birthday with fellow Lunch Club members, family and guests, on Wednesday 27th April 2016.
The wonderful thing about it is that May knew nothing, she thought that she was coming to a normal lunch club gathering!
What a celebration it was ! It had everything, the normal Lunch Club delicious food, balloons, cake, poppers, tasteful table decorations, photo story boards recording the many happy moments of May's 100 years and joyful musical entertainment provided by one of the Club's favourites - Gabriella - the Ukulele Lady.
There was a special letter from the Queen's office wishing May a happy day, this was in addition to the normal letter that the Queen sends to all U.K. citizens who attain this significant age. There was also a beautiful bouquet of flowers sent by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham.
Birmingham's own tv station 'Big Centre TV' was there to record it all too.
But above all, it had May's friends and family, in party mood, to celebrate this momentous occasion.
As the website editor and a guest at this happy event, I would like to share my observation that this great party didn't happen by chance.
It was the result of some imaginative work by South Aston's 'Work with the Elderly' team leader, Dave Kendrick. He was magnificently supported, as always, by his team and members of South Aston URC.
He and they must have been delighted with the outcome. Well done to all who contributed. Here are a few photos from the day -
