South Aston URC –
50 Years at the Heart of the Community
On 6th October 1973 the newly built South Aston United Reformed Church, Birmingham held a Service of Dedication following the union of two former Congregational Churches – Aston Park Congregational Church and Wheeler Street Congregational Church.
Along with all the older buildings in the area, Aston Park Church had to be demolished to make way for the new Aston Expressway and Birmingham City Council offered us a new site nearby so the members of Wheeler Street Church decided to come with us and establish a new church. And so, as they say, the rest is history !
On the weekend of 7th and 8th of October 2023 we had two wonderful services of celebration. The Thanksgiving Service on Saturday was led by our Minister Revd. Peter Little, and our Moderator Revd. Steve Faber and was followed by tea when there was a minimum of formality and greetings were shared by many.
On the Sunday, morning worship was led by Mrs Margaret Marshall and we concluded with more refreshments. It was lovely to see everyone and about 150 friends past and present joined us over the weekend, including one of our former Ministers, Revd. John Campbell.
It was a wonderful weekend and it was great to catch up with everyone. On such a special occasion it was good to give thanks together for the opportunity of serving our community for the last 50 years.
